Smart Value Guide is an independent site about vision and eye health after 50. We explain common symptoms in plain language and check the supplements sold for them against published research, and we say so when the research doesn’t back the marketing.

What you’ll find here

Who writes it

Articles are researched and written by the Smart Value Guide Editorial Team. We are not doctors, and we don’t present ourselves as medical professionals. Our articles are not reviewed by a physician before publication, which is one more reason to talk to your own doctor before changing anything.

What we do is read the research and official guidance carefully, from sources such as the National Eye Institute (NEI), the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the NIH Office of Dietary Supplements, and report what they say, including what they don’t support. Every article lists its sources at the end and shows when it was last updated. Our process is described step by step on How We Review.

How the site is funded

Some links on this site are affiliate links: if you buy through them, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That’s how the site pays for itself. We don’t accept payment from brands for reviews, ratings or placement. Details are on our Affiliate Disclosure page.

What we won’t do

  • Invent testimonials, before-and-after stories or buyer counts.
  • Cite a study we haven’t checked.
  • Raise a rating because a product pays a commission.
  • Present anything on this site as a substitute for medical advice.

Medical disclaimer

Everything here is general information, not medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. If you have vision changes, especially sudden ones, talk to a healthcare provider. See our Terms of Use for the full wording.
